PIHRA is committed to providing its members and the larger HR community in Southern CA with the resources they need to succeed in their career.

Building relationships and receiving trusted guidance is key to an individual’s career success. Through the PIHRA Mentor Program, PIHRA will strive to connect individuals eager to grow as an HR professional with those with the leadership and demonstrated experience to help guide their career development.

We cannot do this without our committed volunteers, which is why we developed the Mentor Program in a Box Toolkit.

Let’s work together to build this!

Welcome to PIHRA’s Mentorship Program!

We are excited to introduce the PIHRA Mentorship program to all PIHRA chapters, providing an exceptional opportunity for professionals to connect, grow, and succeed together. As your Mentorship Coordinators, we aim to empower individuals at every stage of their HR career. Whether you are a seasoned leader eager to share your expertise or a professional just beginning your career journey, this program is designed to foster meaningful connections and development for all participants.

Mentorship is a powerful tool that transcends titles and roles, offering guidance, inspiration, and collaboration. Through this structured program, participants will gain valuable insights, develop critical skills, and build lasting relationships while contributing to the growth of the vibrant HR community across Southern California.

We are excited to embark on this journey with you and look forward to its positive impact on our members, chapters, and the HR profession as a whole. Together, we can cultivate an inclusive and supportive environment where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.

Warm regards,

Stephany Morris-Nelson, PHR, SHRM-CP & Jennifer Blair, SPHR

The PIHRA Mentoring Model

The PIHRA Mentor Program strives to increase opportunities for early entrants in the HR profession through a high-impact, short-duration program that is innovative and tailored to participants’ needs. The program is led by PIHRA volunteer leaders and committee taskforce members primarily comprised of PIHRA members or mentor program alumnae.

The mentor program occurs once or twice a year, depending on available resources. It includes up to fifteen mentor/mentee pairs to begin.

The mentor program is fast paced because it lasts eight weeks. It will include two formal, in-person meetings and four virtual or in-person meetings. The program details are outlined below in the section called Program Timeline.

The program was developed to support students and young professionals (emerging leaders) in their growth, learning, and thriving within the HR field as they begin their careers. The program’s model was initially created by the SHRM & PIHRA at UCLA Student Chapter. While the PIHRA program incorporates many elements from the UCLA model, it has been expanded to include students and emerging HR leaders with 1-5 years of experience looking to enhance their knowledge and skills in human resources.

The next generation of HR professionals is here creating a new future for the workplace.

Let’s make it happen.

We got you. Well, at least we have a template that you can use as a starting point.

Mentor Program Marketing

Now that you and your board have decided to launch your mentor program, you may need to market it to potential mentors and mentees (unless you’re partnering with a PIHRA Student Chapter or community organization).

In any case, here are some graphic templates you can use to help promote your program! Please make sure to copy the graphic, and customize for your chapter with a new name.

When you’re ready to start promoting your Mentor Program, complete the 2025 Programs Request Form.  This will ensure there is a link to your mentor program on the PIHRA Calendar or website and will contain the information you need to communicate.  This will also trigger the PIHRA marketing team to include the information in the weekly digest, targeted emails and/or social media.
